Pitch fee £40 a night - bargain!

I notice that C&CC have a number of temporary campsites this summer. The one I was just looking at (Windsor Great Park) is £40 per night, minimum 3 night stay.

Is it just me that thinks this is ridiculously expensive? Although there are no details on the C&CC website I would imagine for your £40 you get a grass pitch with no electric.

Oh the joys of commercialism surounding the Olympics.

If you want a basic campsite try the original CC&C site at Walton on Thames. No toilets or showers but standard club pricing for ths site. Booked it a few weeks ago for end of our summer holidays and for three of us and was about £11 a night. Also not too far from a station. Cannot remember but think it was under a mile walk.

Had she been so minded she could have made a mint from that...it looks like everyone else is.  Hotels in and around London have in some cases hiked prices from £160 per night to over £600 and in some instances by an even bigger margin.

profiteering from club members...that stinks.

I agree that it is a ridiculous price but you may well find it is based on what the owners are charging the CCC per unit per night plus a little for CCC.

For instance, last July/August we stayed at a CCC THS (with showers) in a lovely seaside town for £8.50 per unit per night ; the cost was based on the school charging the Motorhome Section of the Club £6 +VAT per pitch per night. So in that case the MHS was making £1.30 a night per pitch for its funds which went towards, for example, hiring halls when winter meets were taking place.

I agree that some landowners and hotel owners are charging extortionate rates during The Olympics. Good on those people who booked into Club sites or commercial sites which were charging their normal high season prices rather then "upping" the price for The Olympics dates. Also good on those organisations and sites for not "upping" the fees.

No wonder the Establishment insisted on holding the Olympics in London.

Especially when taxpayers are forced to pay for it. Most of whom probably couldn't afford to go. >:-(
