Symbol Owner
Not all politicians are: "In it for themselves" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11167902 The sad death of (Lord) Jack Ashley reminds us (or me at least -- I shouldn't speak for the rest of you!) that some constituency M.P.'s really can and do make a real difference. He was a most inspiring man, of great courage, physical and moral, respected by fellow parliamentarians of all colours and political points of view. May he rest in peace. Colin. Symbol Owner
Sure thing Dave, but Lord Ashley was truly exceptional and a real inspiration to all who met him -- he would have excelled at whatever he turned his hand to -- the people of Stoke were very lucky to have him as their M.P. for22 years. CliveH
I will remember him most for the tireless work he did on behalf of the Thalidomide victims. Just one of the series of good works this man did in his lifetime.
Symbol Owner
Yes Clive, thalidomide is certainly his enduring legacy -- proof of what his late wife called his "Bloody-mindedness -- would that there were more like him! Colin.
Klyne
To me he was as close as its possible to come to having a political hero. Not sure I could name many, if any that I see following in his footsteps. David
