Electrolux fridge problems

My friend has a RM6291L fridge in his caravan which has been acting up.He had it in for repair, the gas valve was replaced, the thermocouple and the jet.He now finds that it will only stay lit while ever he holds the button in.It has been back in again where he had the repair done and they changed the thermocouple again but still no luck. When the fidge is pulled out and a temporary gas supply connected,it works ok,but as soon as it is put back into the housing it stays lit while ever the button is held but goes out as soon as it is released. As soon as the button is pressed it lights immediately.but however long the button is held it goes out as soon as it is released. The thermocouple has been changed again but still the same situation. The fridge has been tried with the vent covers off and all the pipework has been checked, and it still works perfectly when it is out of the housing but not when it is back in.The repair centre where he took it are baffled as is my friend and is at a loss as what to do next. The fridge is in very good condition and having spent over £150 already he is thinking it might have been a better option to replace the fridge. If anyone out there can come up with a suggestion as how to solve this mystery he would be very happy to say the least. Thanks Snowbird.

Ask yourselves what is different between the fridge being in the van, and in the workshop.

One thing will be the electrical supply, the other the gas supply.

Can you verify that there is a good 12V supply to the fridge, as required. Has a fuse blown? Has a connection loosened? If all electrics test positive, as I guess they should given the ignition systems works, suspect the gas supply.

Is there sufficient pressure and an adequate supply? Is the regulator working properly? Do other gas appliances work as they should?

This sounds like a thermocouple problem, but the fact that it works well on the bench but not in the van suggests otherwise. Who is removing and re-fitting the fridge? It should be done by the repairer, who should be testing the fridge in its housing (and testing the gas connection for leaks!) as well as on the bench, but is it being taken to the repairer? If so, an error in installing/re-connecting seems a further possibility.
