Car NCD useable on M/Home insurance?

It does not much matter what NCD you have as many premiums these days are calculated on the basis that many drivers will have a full NCD anyway and what you have to pay net is what really matters - so compare and contrast!.

If you have documentary evidence of your 10 years NCD it won't hurt to hang on to it but I doubt anyone will ever ask to see it!

I theoretically have 41 years NCD but I can't prove it and nobody has ever asked!

I am with safeguard currently, who will not mirror car NCD, they want £481 for me and the wife as drivers, we are both 46, this includes cover for abroad etc, which we dont really need and AA rescue, what do you think? the van has a cat1 and is located off road on our drive.

Andy..

We're of a *similar* age to you..we've only had a MH for about 5-6 years or so and we paid around the 300quid mark last time(full comp',breakdown/recovery,inc' abroad, admin fees etc etc)..

Although I do recall the original renewal(Safeguard) being a lot higher...and it was only after I'd got some lower online quotes and telephoned to say that I was looking at switching, that they reduced it...

..and interestingly(worryingly?!)they were aware of the *exact* amounts that I had been quoted from these "other" companies.... 8-)

(.."..Ah yes...I see that xxxLtd have quoted you £XXX....."... :-S )

We're with Safeguard and they did mirror car NCB for first 3/4 years but then you are on maximum anyway.

We pay about £325 but this includes a discount for being on a compound when not in use. The difference on your policy could be age (under 50) your drive and the postcode area where you live-all factors in the premium as is any convictions for speeding etc even if it was in a car.

I've 'compared' for past 4 renewals but couldn't better Safeguard-and the breakdown service is very good when needed

When I first got insurance for our first motorhome (Elddis Autoquest 140..07 plate)..they asked me what I did for a living....

I said...HGV Driver Class 1..(Now called C+E)

They said..Oh well no worries driving it then.. ..

I then said..I am also a qualified HGV Instructor..Advanced Driver..Done the Police course too...and all the other driving courses even done the anti Hi-jack course...

They said...Well that doesn't matter....what NCD do you have..So I said accident free from 12th/July/1971..(thats the day I passed my car test) never had a claim whatsoever..on my renewals I've always had the top wack for NCD..60% + she said can you show proof of No Claims..so I e-mailled them proof of No claims...they said eventually well we can offer you 40%..I declined and tried another firm..Caravanguard and got a whole better deal...they accepted my proof of NCD

I will not name the firm to save their blushes.....It would appear that insurance companies don't want customers who have good driving records and good NCD....I can remember when companies were offering more discounts to drivers who took advanced driving courses...obviously not the case now...

Shield mirror car NCD. Paid about three hundred last time. We went with them, initially, because they specialise in self builds cover.

Shield breakdown service is provided by Europ Assist, or should I say Aria Assist, and, on the occasions I've needed help, they've been excellent.

Does that include European breakdown cover as well? Reason I ask is when I compared the two this year, it didn't and when I added it in there was about £20 difference which Safeguard matched to keep the custom-£204 sounds one hell of a difference if it is like for like.

Guest Peter James
I have full NCD with Churchill. But when I bought a new van I wanted to keep the old one whilst I fitted out the new - keeping both insured indefinately on two polices. They would not give me any NCD on the second policy. Their argument was that if I made a claim I would only lose the NCD on the policy I claimed on.

When my renewal came through this year it showed only 4 years no claim dicount

When I contacted other companies for quotes I was informed some insurance companies only show up to 4 years NCD on the renewal quote others show 5 years

On changing companies I had to get a letter from the original insurance company confirming I actually had 5 years

Does all of that make sense

We are with Safeguard they gave me my full ncd when we first took the insurance out with them about 12 years ago, now on full discount they also advised that we should take off comuting which brought it down. We pay about £350 at the moment but expect it to go up a bit with the new van. I consider it good especially as tghere is the full european breadowncover as well.

Works out about same then -mine was £326 with Safeguard but postcode could make slight difference

Thought £204 was a big difference!!

It includes the RAC recovery Mike, so iniitial quote was £217ish , then I added the RAC recovery on as well , forgot to check whether that included europe cover but being as I work its highly unlikely I will travel in europe yet. Im still shocked so when the documents come through I will be checking them with a fine tooth comb ;-)
