Travel Insurance

Myself and my wife are looking for travel insurance for the coming Spring when we will set of motor-caravanning in France/Italy/Germany and also for a short trip to the far east over Christmas.

As we both are over pensionable age and have previous medical conditions (who doesn't?) reasonably priced insurance seems difficult to get.

We have been quoted figures in excess of £500 for our Christmas journey alone and in some cases have been refused insurance (we are not that decrepit !! )

Does anyone have experience/suggestions of good quality insurance companies that could give us travel insurance for either single or multi trip cover ?

Cheers,

Degsy

After a lot of searching we have found Staysure to be the most cost effective cover for our 3 month trip this Winter. We had various quotes from £200 to £500+ and some wouldn't even cover us!

We were very surprised to find if we had not had any treatment in the past 2 years for pre-existing conditions they did not load excesses.

I have a heart condition with Heart attack/Angioplasty history and my wife had cancer 10 years ago. Both these conditions meant loading with every other company but Staysure accepted them (along with about 250 other conditions that they allow without loading) as neither of us had had any significant change in medication in past 6 months or hospitalisation in past 2 years.

European cover including cancellation was £128 for 3 months for both of us. Given the cost of repatriation if anything went wrong, we considered this a 'no-brainer'

Don't know what they are like for Far East but would certainly try them.

Found them very helpful on the phone too when I couldn't give an exact answer on-line

Was going to staysure or one of their umbrella specialist insurers if it comes to it..I have a Europe only policy , cost £300 and just upgraded to world wide excluding America. Etc..so that it will cover India trip for Christmas . Upgrade cost £140 stand alone for India £250.

All based on algorithms, nothing personal, purely mathematical....The higher the risk the more you pay........simples! :-D

Thanks for your all your suggestions, I've tried a few of them and it looks as if there is no such thing as inexpensive travel insurance.

You may be right inasmuch that they use the same mathematical formulae, many of the questions are identical, so I suppose it's not surprising they come out with similar prices.

I'll try a couple more then pay up I suppose!!
