I was about to give up with the iBoost as I could not do site surveys to set it up. As a last chance I changed from chrome to firefox and bingo. I do not have the technical abilities to explain why but it worked. Hopefully somebody more expert will come along and help. If you do fix please let us no how. Hi Hamish, It wasn't the 'iBoost Pro' (click to view) system that you was having problems with but the USB router we supplied you with which forms part of our 'iBoost USB'. (click to view) system. I think you mentioned you was using iCabmobile as your browser but when you switched to Safari it worked OK for you. Safari is always a safe bet if using an iPad so you did the right thing in switching. We don't write the software for the iBoost USB and so its interface isn't quite as nice as the iBoost Pro D8 system but it's certainly functional. I'm glad to hear it worked well with your Yagi antenna as recommended by sambukashot. Then, plug the device into the USB port. Windows should search its own online database and see if it has a driver available to install. If you have 64 bit Windows 7, it will not work." sshortcircuit Posted January 2, 2013 Share Posted January 2, 2013 You are correct Adam, I only purchase the USB router that forms part of your system and connected to a Yagi with USB adapter that I had purchased elsewhere. My comments with respect to the difficulties with browsers were more for the information of others and not made as a criticism of any product. Will be changing to BT in about two weeks time and will then be able to fully evaluate the system but do not see any difficulties. When looking at FON I see that SFR are part of this group in France and I was able to pick up their WiFi easily and will now be able to log in Edit Before anybody thinks this is a really high powered system when I am talking about connecting to SFR, but this is when I am in France and not from here :-D Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Homenaway Posted January 2, 2013 Share Posted January 2, 2013 Hi, We came across several SFR hotspots in France in 2011 but our FON login wasn't accepted. Lets hope it's changed since then. We found one working FON hotspot when on the aire at Loches otherwise zilch - although we don't go out of our way searching for hotspots in the suburbs of towns where many FON users are! Residential routers are not pre-enabled for FON like BT customers are in the UK - they must manually choose to "opt in" to offer the FON part of the service. (Info for French customers opting in taken from here: http://goo.gl/o1n49 ) These will be broadcast as "SFR-with-FON" rather than "SFR Public" which you will have most likely seen. I think all new residential routers may well be shipping to Broadcast FON as well, but there are at least 4m SFR spots which are SFR customers only which is probably the majority. The FON map is the best tool to see what hotspots are available to use as a FON subscriber ( http://maps.fon.com/ ) rather then the SFR one ( http://cartewifi.sfr.fr/ ). Portuguese provider ZON also has excellent coverage, as they operate similar to BT. So when in France I will only be able to connect to the FON WiFi spots, being SFR WiFi FON through my BT user name and not the SFR WiFi spots. I parked outside the clubhouse of New Galloway Golf Club and directed the Iboost antenna towards some houses nearby and got excellent signal from one the many BT hotspots.
