Amps calculating

I'm sure this question has been asked hundreds of times so here goes once again.

I have a small upright (prolectrix) bagless vacuum cleaner. Tech specs are 600W, 220/240V and 50/60 Hz. So to calculate the amps it will use I have divided the Watts (600) by Volts (220 in Europe) and I come out with 2.73. Can I use it on European sites without pitching the area into darkness? *-)

We were on an ASCI site near Issoire in France where they told us it was 6 amps but when we put the satellite on and plugged in the low wattage kettle pop off it all went I worked it out to around 4 amps was the max we could use good job it was only 1 night there..

The heating won out over the Tele mind it was early April!!!
