Heater Control Panel 1996 Peugeot Boxer needed

The heater in our Kontiki has finally packed up. All burnt out at the back. For a while it only worked on number 4 (the highest setting) if you belted it and just left it on permanently. Ive just driven it in for service as the initial step to getting back on the road again (lots to do) and it needs a heater control panel (the full thing).

Nobody can supply our garage with this as they dont keep these parts anymore.

Anyone know where I might source one? Breakers yard or is there a specialist somewhere?

Not really a problem just now but will be come winter!

Hello,

Are you talking about the heater controls in the cab of the vehicle? The ones that would have been part of the base vehicle before conversion?

Nick

Hi Nick,

He is not about at the mo but yes, that is exactly what he needs.

A few of us are trying to help him out but without success. We need a Knight in shining armour (like yourself). :D

I will try to help, and I may have one of those control panels lying about in an old vehicle but I am confused.

Once you have selected the fan speed by the rotary switch, the actual speed is controlled by a resistor array that is in the fan housing. If it only works on max speed this sounds like a duff resistor and not the switch. Much more likely, and much cheaper and easier to replace.

Yes Nick, that sounds right.

He has been off the forums today but is probably busy with work.

What he knows about computers is awesome.

What he knows about Ducatos is awful. :D

I am sure he will be very grateful when he sees your posts. ;-)

Thanks a lot chaps for the replies. Typically I have been tied up with other stuff all day. It has been on the blink for a year or two. The chap at the garage initially cleaned it up last time so that it worked and blew increasingly harder as you turned it from 1 through to 4 but there was no significant click between the 1, 2, 3 and 4 options. last summer at the end of the trip it would only work on 4 and then only when you pressed it hard in or belted it. Now its gone altogether.

I have the part in the van and will take a photo and post it. In fact Ill go and get it as I now have the van back.

If you have one I will be very greatful. 747. Thanks very much fror you help on here and the other forums. Cheques in the post. :-D

Just nipped out and took some photos. There is the front of the heater controls and then the resister thingy from the back of the knob on the right (1 - 4) for the heater fan speed.

The resister appears to have the model number B837 on it.

Thanks again

OK.

Please don't think that I am being awkward but I have to make sure;

The item that you are showing is a switch, and that is all that it does. If it is broken and does not 'switch' any more then I may be able to help. I do have one on an old vehicle that should be ok. Originally you could only buy the complete set of controls including cables, and as you know these are now unavailable new.

There is however a resistor that actually controls the speed of the fan and that is screwed into the body of the heater. If the switch still 'switches' then the problem will be the resistor. It is (from memory) accessed by removing the lower dash panel on the passenger side and is secured with 2 screws and has a four way connector plugged into it. These are still available and if you have any trouble I have a couple of new ones on the shelf.

The switch kind of doesnt switch but does turn. It doesnt significantly click to each of the 4 settings anymore but it was working like that untli recently.

I have emailed the garage this thread and your question so will come back to you. I cant thank you enough for being so helpful! :-D

Hi Barry. I'm having similar problems with my heater. Changed the resistor and checked that the fan is working, so can only assume it's the switch. I've bought a replacement though can't work out how the fascia removes as I don't have a manual. I can see the two bolts in the clock panel above - can you remember how the main panel was fixed? Your help is appreciated

I am afraid I cant. This was in 2013 and I Cant remember how it was fixed in the end, certainly not by me. Someone gave me the whole unit off a Citroen van I believe and my mechanics butchered it and fitted it. This reminds me though that I think its knackered again so ill need to source the bits from another breaker. Good luck, sorry I Cant help/
