Vernon B
The good news is summer has finally arrived. The bad news is the rise in temperature has revealed that the Air Con on our 2009 Frankia 640i Compact isn't working! The heating/cooling system is the Mercedes Tempmatik. From experiencing similar problems with cars I expected the fault to be either simply a matter of getting the thing re-gassed or at worst having to fork out for a new compressor. Having just received a call from my local Mercedes dealer it appears that things are a little more complicated (expensive!) than that. Apparently there is no access to the test points on the unit without "removing large sections of the front end" - four hours labour for a kick off. As the dealer can't get round to doing anything further today there is a pause in the proceedings so I'd be really grateful if someone can share any experiences which might offer alternative courses of action. Any recommendations for outfits specialising in Air Cons especially Tempmatic units would be particularly useful. Thanks V
Guest JudgeMental
last place I would have taken it is to a franchised dealer....I would use a A/C specialist company, either static or mobile...search google for recommendations
lennyhb
Plenty of mobile aircon specialists about, tend to be one man bands so rates reasonable and you could then remove the panels yourself.
Hilux
Had my Sprinter air con re-gassed by a local chap for £70. No panels came off. 1 hour job he also recommended a new cabin filter - which I fitted for £15. Excellent. H
lennyhb
Is yours an "A Class" like Vernon's? If it is a standard cab obviously panels would not need removing.
Guest peter
It depends which A class it was. They are all different. Mines easy to get at.
thebishbus
Hi . Our compressor exploded, I fitted a replacement and had it checked and re filled by a firm in Birmingham. Replacement compressors are available around £200 - £400 depending on type ( Amazon do a range). The people I used in Birmingham were :- Birmingham Windscreens Ltd. Severn street. Tel.0121-643 1471 or 1415. No stripping involved with our Hymer, did the job whilst we shopped. They pressure tested it regassed and oiled it for £102, that was 4 years ago though. Brian B.
