Guest martin h Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 I,ve been into maplins electrical store in walsall today and a chap there told me that in three weeks or so they will be selling new tomtom products with uk and europe included. I dont understand all the technical stuff that most of you seem to but he uses sat nav in his car seemed to think this new tom tom thing was cheap and worth waiting for.what do you think?
Guest petej Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Tom Tom already have a system on sale called tomtomgo, the version available in a few weeks is an upgrade called the tomtomgo 300, 500 and 700. 300 is the basic version, 500 has full uk mapping and basic european mapping and the 700 has full uk & european street level mapping on a hard disc. Don't know how he knows its cheap because prices haven't been released yet. I'm looking to get the 700 but as always it depends on the price. You might also like to look at the garmin system thats also being released soon and looks remarkably similar to the tomtomgo system. The sp330 with full uk and european mapping is being released at a price of 550 inc VAT. Maybe expect the Tomtom 700 to be priced similarly? Both makes are plug in and go and very easy to use. Another way to go might be to get the outgoing tomtomgo model at a cosiderably reduced price and upgrade with the new software when it becomes available (totmtom have stated that the new software in the 700 etc will be transferrable to the old 'go' model) Heres a few links for you to peruse and confuse you even more! http://www.garmin.com/products/sp330/ http://www.tomtom.com/products/category.php?ID=0&Language=1 http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/search.php?p=3190,3191,3192,3193,3194,3204,3250&sort=1&bid=52 http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/menu_gpsincarsystems.php
Guest Dick Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 Be careful, most european mapping systems stop at the old east/west border. Still the best so far as I am concerned is Microsoft Autoroute. Even after wasting my money on Memory Map, which was up to a mile adrift on the roads in Croatia. OK, OK, (The latest Autoroute packages no longer do "Eastern Europe")but Autoroute 2000 was much more accurate, even if it only updated every few seconds, and Autoroute 2005's (which updates 10 times a second)street level mapping is second to none.
Guest Mike C Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 The new Tomtom navigator 5 system and the new Tomtom Go have been reviewed by Pocket GPS World. See web site www.pocketgpsworld.com Regards, Mike C
Guest petej Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 Just for info, www.pocketgpsworld.com and www.pocketgps.co.uk in my previous post are both links to the same site. pete.
