Pete-B
Someone told me today that if your stopped by VOSA for a weight check they allow 5%, is that right, if so I presume that's 5% on payload and not 5% on total weight?
bolero boy
Your weight plate only has a maximum weight (plus axle weights) and this (these) are the weights they will check. The plate contains no info regarding MIRO or 'payload'. If you are overweight on either axle or on total weight, but by not more than 5% then you are ok. lennyhb
5% is a guide line it's not written stone, also bear in mind a weighbridge tolerance is +50kg, -50kg and they check them at 17 to 18 tonnes. They are designed for weighing up to 40 tonne lorry's I often wonder how accurate they are at 3.5, with modern equipment they are probably OK just can't help wondering. Another thing that crosses my mind is if the weighbridge you check you van on is at one end of the tolerance and one you get checked on if stopped is at the other end you could be 100kg over or 100kg under, interesting thought. But you should be OK as 5% of 3500 is 175kg, more than makes up for the tolerance variation.
