Hi Frank - no specifics on the Stardream, but some background info.

The 2008 model is likely to be an "original" Autocruise, which went into Liquidation & subsequently bought by Swift. So the 2010 model (unless very old stock) will be built in the old Autocruise factory, but by Swift's. IMHO the original Autocruise had more loyal customers.

The Stardream was built on the lower AL-KO chassis, so handling was considered better than the standard Peugeot chassis (nb.Swift built on both the Peugeot & Fiat badged base vehicle, Autocruise only on the Peugeot base)

The Stardream was a popular layout & there should be a reasonable selection on the market.

Fuel consumption will depend on so many variables. (which engine option, how it's driven, wind conditions, if the engine is fully run-in, etc..) AAE our previous 2009 Autocruise Sportstar ( standard Peugeot chassis & 2.2L engine, 6m long) initially gave an average of 25mph, but after 3000m improved to 28mpg, occasionally upto 34mpg when in touring mode. But on one occasion 240m into headwind on mainly motorways dropped to 23mpg.

I would expect the Stardream to achieve an overall average around the 30mpg when fully run-in around 8/10k miles.

If looking at the 2008 model ensure test drive includes reversing up a slope to check clutch judder is not present. 2010 model will have the modified gear ratio's fitted in the factory, However Peugeot based models were much less prone to the problem vis-a-vis the Fiat based.

Hope this helps.

Our 07 Stardream is very quite and stable on the road thanks to the very long wheelbase provided by the

Al-Ko chassis, it is easily grounded and has a large turning circle tho'. Fuel consumption is around 28mpg

in the UK, 32mpg in France due to the more relaxed cruising speed there, with fewer gear changes. The 2.2 engine is up to the job and handles hills nae' bother.

Very well equipped and well put together with loads of room, the shower room is great. We use ours as single berths as it only takes seconds when using Duvalay's.

If your not a plate snob go for the earlier version as Swift reputation is quite poor.

Frank, ensure you check for damp behind the external skirt. Check under the van and in the bed lockers. Tap the floor and wall where they meet to check there are no soft bits.

Also, as Flicka noted, check reversing up a slope. The 2010 model is likely to have the lower reverse gear fitted, the 2008 model may not.

Other bits.

Fully loaded with clothes ,fuel,water and two bikes 3360kg ( F 1660kg R 1700kg), leaving 140kg free for wine.

No active owners club, Swift barely acknowledge the existence of original Autocruise builds.

Thanks for replies ,is there out there a guide to prices ,ie Glass do the guide for prices on cars that you could expect to pay ,is there one for Motor homes .

yes there is, and most dealers will quote from one when eyeing up a 'part ex.' As with the car version of the Glass's guide, you need to be a subscribing trade member to get the latest edition.

We had a 2005 Starlet 2, on the low Alko chassis, we were very happy with it, and prefered the Eberspacher Heater/Hot water system, to our present Truma Combi 4E. But check that it works properly when you pick it up, as they are easily Frost Damaged if not drained properly, and expensive to fix. Swift no good for Spares, and turning circle of a old London Bus. The ulta low chassis means excellant road holding and handling even at high speed, a really good van. Ray
