davidmac
Hi, took my m/h to clutch specialist for a new clutch which they fitted .When they went to drive it off the lift they could not find any forward gears. The geabox has been taken out again and inspected, they tell me that the selector rod is worn, could possibly get it to work but no telling how long for.Two other options were offerd, replace selector rod like for like or replace with modified slector parts which have been made available because it is a known weak part. Has anyone else come across this problem? I only have to pay the original quoted price plus any new parts fitted,no extra labour charges. There is a diferance of £80 between the original and upgraded parts. Regards David
euroserv
Hello David, I am absolutely certain that there are no aftermarket parts or upgraded Fiat items for this vehicle. If the gears were selecting ok before they removed the gearbox; they should be ok afterwards. The gear cables sit in a guide close to where the connections to the gearbox are. If the engine mount, gearbox mount or the guides are not in the correct position or are bent; gear selection can be affected. There is also a pivot pin that often becomes stiff but again; you would have noticed this before the clutch failed. If the box was either crunching going into any gear or was jumping out of gear this would suggest a need for new selector forks inside the box. They are going to have to figure out what they have done wrong because as stated before; if the gear selection was fine before.... no new parts are required. Dave Newell
Complete agreement with Nick, if it was ok before then it should be ok now. Some gearbox specialist! D.
davidmac
Hi .Dave ,Nick thanks for your response. Mr Clutch is doing the work . I said that Iwould expect to see the parts that have been replaced. I brought the m/h two years ago and have done about 11000 miles and not missed or crunched a gear in that time , no probs at all. Time to talk to them again Regards David
