Day 15, Arrived at Les Blaches (camping cheques 219) was only intended as a stopover but ended up staying for 3 days. Mainly because our pitch (66) was only 30metres from the Ardèche in the Gorges de l Ardèche where Kayaking was the order of the day.

The site is situated just outside Salavas with beautiful views of the Ardèche. The pitch was large enough for us to turn the Autotrail around so we were side on to the river.

Les Blachas has free wifi at the bar, what a useful place to have it, also a very nice restaurant. Toilet block was clean BUT the showers never got above luke warm. There are 3 tennis courts, basketball and volley ball pitch.

On our 2nd day we decided to go Kayaking, 17euro each for 2 hours. You go down the river until you reach station 9 then a bus brings you back, that sounds easy we thought, so let's go for it!! You do have life vests!!

However no one mentioned the several rapids you have to negotiate. Having sailed through the first one, thought EASY, needless to say they got more difficult, but the whole journey was amazing, an experience we were both glad we did......

Rated 8/10. Lost 1 for cold showers and another for, not all pitches were next to the river, but in low season should be ok. Definitely going back to this site...

Day18

Drove onto Les Abrets and the site of 'Le Cointranquil' (camp cheque 242) pitch 92 but all pitches were good. Hot showers and a very clean toilet block.

Free wifi at the bar and a very good renowned restaurant which was busy. Had live music and a BBQ the night we were there. Very friendly site.

Rated it 9/10, not sure of surrounding area as we only stayed the 1 night

Day 19+ will be in Annecy, staying for 17 nights, yes we love it here!!

Did the Kayaking thing on L'Ardeche a couple of years ago. I think we did a 3 or 4 hour trip. Best fun we have had in ages made more interesting by the rapids!

I think we did it late July or early August and we set of early assuming we would have the river to ourselves.

None of it within an hour it was packed but it was a superb atmosphere as everyone was in the same boat (pardon the pun). There was some really funny crashes and disasters at some of the rapids as people just got rammed and packed together.

Lovely part of France and Annecy is even better! Good little Farm Aire at La Thuile near the bottom end of the lake.
