peejay
Hi, Theres a free aire at Dudelange, 49.47148 6.07840 the only caveat is to avoid Sat nights as there is a nearby disco and it might get a bit noisy. For fuel, you can go to any garage in Luxembourg and the cost will be the same as the price per litre is regulated. Can't help with cheap baccy. Guest JudgeMental
Did you visit Remich yet, heading that way on way to Italy next week and wonder if its worth a stop....
StuartO
There is a stellplatz at Metlach, N49 29.733 E6 35.729, close to the river and near a supermarket. This is only a few km from the A8 and just into Germany, close to the border with Luxembourg. Restaurant right next to the parking area. Nice little town, it has a factory outlet shop for Vilroy & Boch crockery. Payment expected by telephoning a computerised system, explanatory notices (in German of course) on site. Cheap fuel from the motorway services (Aire de Capellen) on the A6, west side of the City of Luxembourg. This is a huge, busy place with a vast array of fuelling points to cater for the demand. They also have a motorhome dumping point but it ain't pretty. Enjoy!
Brians dad
We are just back from Austria via Luxembourg. Instead of going on the A4 motorway from Luxembourg to Namur, we turn off at Arlon and go on the old N4 road - still all dual carriageway and as fast as the motorway. We stopped 10 km north of Arlon at Attert campsite, it was Belgium but very cheap for overnighters and a good basic restaurant for the famous Belgian chips. Just up from there is Martelange, a strange place with one side of the road in Lux, and the other in Belgium. Lots of £1 / litre diesel stations - and most of them seem to have a big selection of cigarettes too. Most have cheap booze as well - the Luxembourg moselle wines are worth trying. There are also motorway service stations in Luxembourg, but these tend to be a bit of a scrummage, with all the truckers filling up with fuel, cigs - and often coffee too! One word of caution though - although the N4 to Namur is a pleasure, the A15 Namur to Mons is full of roadworks and liable to cause delays, unless you go on Sunday like we did and it was fairly clear. The stop at Remich is one we use often judge its a pull in with the river on one side and a large grass verge then the main road on the other, its fine but the traffic starts to get noisy around 6.00am but if your moving on you want to be up anyway (lol) its lovely with your door open sitting looking at the river traffic, and you can get your chairs out on the river side. Oh and a nice stroll with plenty of cafe,s restaurants.
trickydicky
Yes,judge,we did make it to remich.unfortunately we went straight from Dunkirk in the pouring rain, and it wasn't too warm either ( so glad it was a one off, been beautiful ever since, 26c as we speak, and it's 8 pm). Found the lay by easily, one other van there but left as soon as we pulled in ( was it something we said ). Went for a walk into town, and got soaked. Back at the van,on our own,in the rain, only 2 pm we decided to go on a bit and ended up on a stellplatz in saarburg, which turned out to be very nice.we stayed 3 nights.back to remich, if your passing, yes, worth a look at,but due to our circumstances,I can't say much more about it really. Cliffy
JudgeMental - 2014-07-16 4:36MPL Did you visit Remich yet, heading that way on way to Italy next week and wonder if its worth a stop....We went there last September, was not impressed. The town is scruffy, the road by the river is quite wide and busy, tbere is giant car park which I believe has a section for motorhomes. The campsites were not attractive enough for us either so we moved on after having a look around. As always just my opinion others might think different. When in that neck of the woods we like to stay at Hesperage. The aire at the fire station in Arlon is good for a stopover.
Bojitoes
Hi There is a very nice ACSI campsite at Ingledorf / Diekirch. Excellent facilities and a 5 minute stroll from a shopping centre which stocks all sorts of wine and booze. Very friendly management with very nice bar & restaurant and locals who are pleased to talk- we are going again later in the year. Enjoy your trip- there is also a nice cheap stellplatz with full facilities in the village of Erden, just a few kilometres from bernkastel if you are in that part of the mosel region. bob

maggyd
It just goes to show different people have different opinions, WE dont like port-de-pleasance we called there a couple of years back there was hardly enough room to park the van the boats were taking the best spaces up and only one other motorhome a German who had spread out !!! Remich has had a lot of work done along the esplanade the park is very neat and tidy, we didnt go up into the main area up through the streets :-S but I cant understand at all someone describing it as scruffy?? if you want another opinion Judge I suggest you ask MelB she also has stayed there, not sure how many times but I for one think its lovely. :-D And if you have an icloud address p.m me and Ill send you some photos. maggyd
Oh well if you are staying a few days you would be better in a campsite as there are no facilities just bins.
