Guest John Rose Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 There have been lots of comments about the Fiat Ducato mostly concerned with the problems related to 5th gear. My question has a link and is concerned with the issue of engine size and vehicle weight. I own a Eura Mobil 810 plated at 5000kg on an Alko frame with a 2.8 turbo diesel engine. Has anyone any long term experience of a vehicle of this weight and engine size. Are there any particular experiences related to efectiveness of the cluch or problems with the gearbox particularly 5th gear. I have also followed with some interest the debate on increasing bhp and tourque through a variety of methods including 'chipping'. Is there anyone with experience of doing this and what were the consequences for the cluch.
Guest tony downes Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 You do not say what year your vehicle is but I suspect that it is the normal 2.8 turbo and not the JTD. This is a mechanical injection system the same as my 2.5 and is therefore unchippable. However there are companies that can make the most of the available power by "tuning" the engine. As for 5th gear I have had this happen to me and a gearbox specialist found that all that was required was a "shimming" adjustment to the 5th gear which they said was incorrectly located on the shaft.Touch wood it has been ok since (my initial problem was jumping out of gear which was unfortunate as I was in germany at the time and had to drive back in 4th.
Guest Mike Chapman Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 Hello John, With reference to the reply from Tony one of the tuning companies is van Aaken (Bracknell Berks) who can be found on website www.vanaaken.com. You could also improve performance by having an intercooler fitted/upgraded by TB Turbo (Lancaster)see website www.turboboost.co.uk and adverts in MMM. Regards, Mike C.
Guest Clive Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 All that weight and the same thin 5th gear. Did you follow the link to the photograph of that gear in a previous posting and the comments from Fiay Europe? I would think very carefully before trying to put even more power through it. But its your money! Good luck
