martin h
Has anyone been down Porlock Hill in a 24' motorhome (ours is an Autotrail Dakota). I seem to remember the slop near the bottom being very step and I am worried about the overhang.
Flyinghigh
I went up it in our 7.2 metre A class last month just to make sure that she was pulling well after fitting a new turbo, went up in second gear, going down won't be a problem assuming your brakes are in order, There is a couple of tight bends you will need to be slow but shouldn't be a problem, We parked up on Exmoor overlooking Porlock and took our Honda vision110 scooter into the town for provisions, again no problems going down just a bit of a struggle coming back up, but that was two up with shopping so cannot complain,
terry1956
you can always try engine breaking. but there are ways around the hill so why go down it.
Colin Leake
The overhang won't be a problem but having said that I'd be inclined to give it a miss its ruddy steep and narrow in places with overhanging tree branches. We've been both up and down it on an open top bus with specially low gears. I'd hate to meet a bus on this hill. If you do go up it you can miss the worst bit by taking a short toll road. martin h
Hi Thanks for the replies, it is not braking that bothers me it's the rear overhang on the very step bit near the bottom.
snail
Use the toll road alternative, less steep, much better veiws snail

malc d
Porlock Hill takes me back. In the sixties people used to go and sit by the road to see cars trying to get up it. ;-)
