Well, our government says this country is doing well, and now Europe says we are doing well, so it must be true.

;-)

You may wish to believe the spin Malc ;-) ..................Just take a drive around our local roads that are reminiscent of those found in a third world country,or try and make an appointment at our surgery *-).........

Then of course there's the inconvenient fact that average Joe's wages have stagnated for a decade, but at least for pensioners, or those of us who sponge of one..... its all beer and skittles.......2.5% pay rise >:-).....

You don't need roads in London,

no one can get anywhere.............unless you're on a push bike.

and they manage that on the pavements.

This could be interesting. The EU may demand interest of £3.5 million a month if we are late paying the £1.7 bn they're asking for on the 1st of December. So that throws up a few interesting scenarios.

We could give in and pay.

We could give in and pay then knock it off our next contribution's.

We could have a vote now and withdraw from the EU.

We could let the amount rack up until the EU throw us out for not paying.

Anything else we could do?

I don't think they want us. :D

Dave

The £1.7bn is based on a calculation of how well the economies of member states have fared since 1995. It would add about a fifth to the UK's net EU contribution of £8.6bn for this year.

The demand generated an angry reaction from Mr Cameron, who said the figure and the deadline were "unacceptable".

The prime minister told MPs the UK would be "challenging this in every way possible".

Following the budget adjustment, some countries, such as France and Germany, are due to get a rebate.

Greece and Cyprus are among the other countries asked to pay a surcharge.

European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas told journalists that by law, every member state had to pay what was due by 1 December.

Asked about the possibility of a penalty, he added: "Rather than fines, there is a process of interest being accumulated."

According to calculation methods released by the commission, the UK's interest charge would be more than £3.5m next month if it does not make the payment on time, the BBC's Europe correspondent Chris Morris said.

The amount levied would work out at an average of £114,247 per day for the first month, and if no UK payments were made within the first year, the average interest charged could rise to nearly £250,000 per day over the course of the year.

According to the Osborne formula:

Real Rate Of Inflation (including housing costs)

-Minus

Official Rate Of Inflation (excluding housing costs)

= Equals

Growth

So Osborne tells us the economy has 'Grown' - effectively counting rising house prices as earnings. The EU says since you are earning more you must pay more tax.

So who is to blame?

Another factor is the rise in immigration, caused by Britain having the most 'flexible' unregulated labour market - allowing immigrants to replace British workers.

Immigrants drive down wages, and drive up house prices, which both seem to suit the Government, so they have long tackled immigration in a half hearted manner. But Cameron is desperate to stop the flow of Tory votes to UKIP so he has to pretend to be doing something about it. So he tries to tell the EU he wants to put a cap on the amount of EU immigrants, Something he knows the EU can never agree to, because the free flow of people throughout the EU is their fundamental principle.

Then when the EU refuses to allow Britain to cap the number of EU immigrants, Cameron will blame it all on them.

Anybody who falls for Cameron's trick should be on my senility thread (lol)
