athiest
Hi all, we went on a European escorted holiday to Spain and Portugal September time last year. On our first day driving through France I managed to back the MH into a stationary French car severely damaging our rear bumper. About ten days later while parked on a Portuguese site we were hit by a sever hailstorm pock marking the Aluminium roof. This meant two insurance claims on the MH. We have separate insurance policies with two different companies one for the MH and one for our car. The price of next years policy on the MH has only gone up by a small amount. The car insurance has gone from £350 to £900 for most of the companies contacted. This is our first claim in over 30 years of driving. We have managed to get the car insurance via a good company for £450. You still need to tell all insurance companies about any claims on other insurances when applying to renew. What a rip-off. lennyhb
Appears to be the latest scam from the insurance companies, having 2 claims in the same year is what probably penalised you. In hindsight would have probably been better to leave the hail claim for a couple of years. Also the size of claim appears to effect the result, I had a claim on the Motorhome it was under a £1000 Motorhome premium & car premium unaffected. In the old days each policy was treated separately and a claim of one would not effect any others you had even with the same company.
athiest
Hi lenny, The size of final bill to the insurance company did not come in to it as we were not told so could not tell for the quotes. We could not leave the roof for some other time in the future as we were on an escorted tour and the damage to our and other vans was reported by the tour company. Brian. Sophie2
"Reported by the Tour Company" Am intrigued there...reported to whom?? I can understand the T.C. reporting it to their Insurance Co or whatever but surely they didn't report it direct to yours?? If so on whose authority? Mickt
When Spain 3 years ago we had a hail storm which damadged many MH,s and caravans. The site gave everybody a letter confirming the storm which was then passed onto insurance companies.
athiest
Hi Sophie2. it seems that I did not make myself very clear. It was not reported to the insurance company but too the tour organisers so that we would have a legit place for the insurance to check on the facts should we decide to claim. Sorry for the misinfo. Derek Uzzell
Presumably both incidents will have resulted in ‘fault-claims', with athiest’s insurance provider having to meet the full cost of the motorhome’s rear-bumper repair (and possibly the cost of repairs to the French car too) and the full cost of repairs to the motorhome’s hail-damaged roof. As highlighted here http://www.monetos.co.uk/insurance/car-insurance/claim/blame-responsibility/ fault-claims will impact on vehicle insurance premiums, irrespective of where the blame for an accident lies.
