I have a caravan repair mechanic who is trying to repair my m/home alarm system but he needs to chat with one of the original Sigma installers. Has anyone any knowledge of one please?

Sigma only supply the components - Does your mechanic need to speak to the original Sigma Installer, that is what your text seems to say ? Also, if you have a keypad as part of the system do you still have the PIN number ?

Hi Not sure if this will help help.

Recently had a problem with Sigma alarm ,which would not set .Had a mechanic arrive from Birmingham ,we live in Sussex all paid for by Marquis .After an hour of searching he found that the alarm was wired into a bike alarm on back ,and switch that no one knew what it was had been switched on .He ended up by passing the switch .

Scorpion Alarms do Sigma and manuals can be downloaded from their site

http://www.scorpionauto.com/home/productsearch?search=sigma

this is the S30 manual but others are available

Thank you for your answer Paul. The only Sigma I can find on here is the S series and mine is the M34 upgrade 2 from 1. I eventually found the S34 which may be the new number. However I did find GAP Security who will supply a new alarm at £89 + £7.20 or a full service for £199. He could contact this firm.

AlanS Thank you for your answer to. When I found that the alarm was not working I was in France and had also noticed that the door locks had been tampered with - now know these two incidents are unrelated. Anyway I spoke to the original titter who has since retired. He was not very happy at being disturbed but did tell me that it does not matter that I don't know the PIN (we were never given it).

My mechanic / fitter had obtained a new alarm but it is the piece behind apparently that he is confused about.

I should like to thank all of you for offering help including the author of a PM I received. When I can get my printer to work again, I will print off this page to show him.

Just an update on this thread. My mechanic has exhausted all possibilities of obtaining the part he needs so I phoned Gap Security again. They really don't want to know unless I buy a new complete system which will be guaranteed for about £90 more than a service and new siren (this is the only part that is not working. Apparently the system should be services annually (nobody ever told us this). A new siren would be about £90 plus the service £199. This part would not be guaranteed and may very welI not work so I have decided not to have the work done as I may sell the m/home anyway and the locks are secure; it is just the siren and these are frequently ignored now.

I should like to thank all those that offered advice and manuals to help me solve this problem. Incidentally I am insured by Saga and they do not give discounts for security fittings.

Hello Patricia. Have you considered taking your van to one of the specialist Sigma alarm fitters for evaluation? It isn't quite clear whether the alarm won't arm, won't trigger, won't sound, or goes off spontaneously. My impression is that the only clever bit in these alarms is the control box, with the individual components that trigger the alarm being relatively cheap and plentiful.

If the main box is faulty you will have little option but to replace it. However, if the fault is a defective reed switch, replacing one of those should cost very little. I can't really see why, if the fault lies in the siren, a new siren can't be added. It seems you really need to get hold of a long established installer who has knowledge of the earlier versions of the Sigma alarms, and who may have a workshop half full of bits that have accumulated over the years.

The problem I can see in selling the van with an inoperative alarm is that all the door switches and wiring will be visible to some extent, and this is liable to put off potential buyers if the alarm doesn't work. I think it would be worth trying to get a fix for that reason.

Assuming the existing wiring is good, it should be possible to replace any dud components to make the system work at a much more reasonable cost than fitting a complete new system. Installing, and neatening, the wiring is time consuming work, and that would account for a fair chunk of the initial cost. Someone you can visit and talk to face to face should be amenable to at least getting what you have back into operating condition. It seems those you have contacted to date are only interested in fitting new: perhaps you have just been unlucky. There must be someone a bit more helpful than you seem to have encountered so far.

Hello Brian and thank you for your post. I am sorry if I did not explain carefully enough. The alarm appears to work ok as far as locking the doors, arming it i.e. the lights flash the correct number of times but there is no sound from the siren. The caravan engineer obtained a part, tried it and I heard the siren sound. Then he told me it was the incorrect part and he would try to get the correct one. This was before Christmas and he has had no luck. I know he has spoken to Scorpion and they only offered the opinion to try to attach a separate siren but the this probably won't work.

I have to say I don't understand this. If I have actually heard the alarm sound, then surely it cannot be dead. I would love to find a specialist Sigma alarm fitter but have drawn blank on that, although I think there may be someone in Worcester but every time I have tried to contact him he has been on holiday.y

Do you have any idea how I might trace an expert in this field?

Only from the Scorpion website Patricia. They list a number of firms in and around Worcester, but don't differentiate which products they deal with. Could you 'phone or e-mail Scorpion to find out who they would reccomend for Sigma alarms in or near Worcester? They seem to be keen to say who their "team" are. Maybe the sales director would know, or could put you in touch with someone who does. Seems a bit useless to me if the only remedy to an alarm fault is to fit a new one! Hope this helps a bit.

Patricia

If you had the M34 Sigma system I believe the siren has an in-built battery backup. There is quite a bit of information on the web about the M34 - used a lot on Subaru cars in 2003 - 2007. Not sure if the battery is replaceable but worth a check but the alarm system dates back to the late 1990's so spares may well be difficult.

Thank you for your advice gentlemen. I have phoned Scorpion this morning (very long wait!!) and the chap was most helpful. He picked out a few phone numbers for me (I had tried a few myself earlier but no-one answered) and said that they could supply a siren but, as you suggested, try to get someone to test it first as it might well not be the siren itself. This is what I thought as it did sound when the mechanic was doing something so there must still be some life in it. So will not give up yet.

Good, and I hope it helps Patricia.

Thank you Brian.

Well good news so far! I phoned one of the numbers that I had not tried before and he answered almost immediately. I had to twist his arm a bit as I live out of his area, but he finally agreed to meet me on Thursday morning, He thought it might be an expensive exercise but in the first instance I will only have to pay his call-out fee. So, keeping fingers crossed!

EXcellent end to the saga. Fitter came out to me on Thursday morning and fitted a new siren in under an hour. Everything works perfectly at a really good price to other quotes, Just £90! Brilliant! My engineer is very annoyed though that Scorpion didn't give him the same suggestion. I have been trying to sort out this problem since October and have phoned Scorpion several times in the past.

Anyway, thank you gentlemen.
