Guest Mel B Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 Seeing as a few motorhome owners tow a 'classic' car behind their vehicles I thought the following might be pertinent. Although we don't 'tow' our Fiat, we do drive it to attend microcar rallies with our motorhome. We've recently renewed our classic insurance for our Fiat 126 - we wondered why the premium had gone down a bit, but this is not always unusual as companies become more competitive and therefore reduce their premiums to keep existing customers. However, to be safe my husband rang the company, who told us that the built-in vehicle recovery is no longer built-in! They didn't bother to tell us this and there was nothing on the renewal to warn us - we could easily have found ourselves stranded somewhere before we knew! The problem is that getting breakdown insurance for 'classic' cars is not that straight-forward - although our breakdown recovery service for the motorhome will add it to their policy, they can't do this until it comes up for renewal which is at the end of April (£20.00 extra). If, however, we were giong to have to wait longer than a month we would've been faced with having to take recovery for the Fiat out separately at a cost of around £35.00. It really makes sense to check what is covered so that you don't end up in our predicament.
