B9 near Koblenz

Hi all. We are at the Stellplatz at Bacharach on the Rhine, heading towards Koblenz and the Moselle shortly. Apparently the B9 west of here has been closed recently....does anyone know if it is open now?

Thanks...Peter

Hi peter, sorry don't know about the B9 but can you tell me a bit about where you are staying. Last year we did the Mosel from Trier to reil and loved it,so this year we are thinking of continuing up to koblenz and part of the Rhine, can you recommend it. Thanks.

We were at Bacharach 2 years ago and it is a beautiful very old town. Stayed on the camp site as the stellplatz did not look very inviting unless you could get on the front overlooking the Rhine. There is a nice beach on the camp site as well.

There are no traffic problems shown for the B9 heading into Koblenz so you should be OK.

However, just in case you are still there at the end of the month, on Sunday 31st May we celebrate "Happy Mosel" where from 11am to 6pm an 85Km section of the main road from Pünderich (below Zell) to Winningen (almost Koblenz) will be closed to vehicles. Only bikes will be allowed along the main Mosel route towards Koblenz.

Beware of the CampingGround at Koblenz. It is owned by Knaus the Motorhome Manufacturer and is one of the most expensive in Germany.
They have a Stellplatz just outside the gate that costs 15 Euro just to park for the night with no services. 4 Euro extra to dump you waste, 3.50 each to shower and 3.50 for EHU.
The Camping Ground is around 35 Euro for a Plot/2 Persons/EHU. Pets are extra as well.
We thought it was a ripoff, but stayed only one night on the Stellplatz for 15Euro.
It is ideal for seeing Koblenz as there is a boat across the Mosel just metres from the campground.

Thanks to all for comments. To Tricky...we have now stayed at Remagen, Rudesheim and Bacharach on the Rhine and enjoyed them all. Full details/pictures are on the blog (Bacharach, the best of the three, will be blogged in a day or so). We sneaked on to the front row of the Bacharach stellplatz and have had a great five days. We leave tomorrow, heading for the Moselle, probably Cochem first stop and then up river to Luxembourg.

I can recommend the Stellplatz at Neef just upstream from Cochem.
Cochem is beautiful and the local wine is very good.
There is a Pay & Display for Motorhomes just off the main road in.
The entrance to the Stellplatz is off the K41 through the riverside Car Park. N 50.092294, E 7.137422.
