Brittany end of August/early September. Busy?

We are thinking of a trip to Brittany in the last week of August and first two weeks of September, but the Missus is worried that the aires/beaches etc will all be packed out then. Does anyone know what Brittany is like at that time of year?

Thanks

Peter

There’s a 2015 ‘Holiday Planner’ for France here

http://about-france.com/week-planner.htm

The summer holiday season is July through August with 11 July through 15 August best avoided if you want to avoid crowding.

You should be OK in Brittany in the last week of August and (as zeddykay says) should definitely have no crowding problems there in September.

Outside school holidays you should be OK...weather can be hit and miss in September though.

We went around the coast of Brittany from July 14th to mid August last year and there were plenty of spaces at all the Aires – late August and September should be no problem.

Some did fill up late in the evening but we never had a problem getting on them.

If you want to 'wild' camp you'll find places overlooking beaches and stunning bays throughout Brittany.

There are so many beaches that very few get overcrowded and many are deserted.

An almost deserted beach near Kerlouan in August -

Toured there from 3 Sept to 30th Sept in 2013 - using only campsites and had no problems at all.

Didn't book anywhere.

Plenty of room on most sites.

We toured last year from beginning of July to mid-september , much of the time in Brittany, and it was very, very busy in August and we wouldn't go again at that time if we could help it but we always got a place to stay and there are so many beaches that space is not a problem. It was more in supermarkets and towns that you notice the crowds

There are more Aires in Brittany than any other region in France but that also means its popular. You will always find a spot though even in peak season. My advice would be to make sure you arrive early afternoon at the most likely popular spots but also if you head out west there are plenty of wild camping spots. Its a lovely region of France and motorhome heaven.
