http://s358.photobucket.com/user/vindiboy1/library/A%20Portugal%20Wander%202015  No reason to use toll roads in Spain or portugal except if you are short on time, easy to get around on  non toll roads, plenty of Aires and free camping and campsites in Portugal  too, no need to book, Vicarious books  do a great publication  of Aires for Portugal ,have a look on Google.

Thanks for your reply we travelled down to the Algarve last year and the electric tolls were not in place are they now. We are going out on the Portsmouth St Malo in the first week of January hoping to cross into Portugal at Villa Fermosa is this a toll road now do you know we will be traveling west and trying to use no toll roads as we have plenty of time . We have brought the Aires book for Portugal just would like input from people who have tried the Aires and there recordation's thanks again

Hi, the motorway at Vila Formosa is a toll road. what I do is from Salamanca is head for Caceres and stop overnight at the university aire, then head for Badajoz and cross the border there.

The "electronic Tolls" were started in December 2011.

thanks for reply any knowledge of route viliar formoso to aire at fratel then constancia then aire at ericeira lisboa area or cross border at Badajoz to lisboa stopingat elvas area

Hi,

For Elvas, you can overnight at the large car park next to the aquaduct, no facilities there but handy for a visit, coords are for the entrance to the car park just off the N246 main road... 38.87893, -7.17242.

If you need to fill up etc then there is a motorhome servicepoint at the Intermarche supermarket to the west of the town beside the N4.... 38.87399, -7.18450

There is also a handy free aire at nearby Terrugem if you don't fancy overnighting in the town, the service point is all free, town is a few kms to the west of the Intermarche just off the N4.... 38.84594, -7.34863

The last time I was at Ericeira the aire was closed and being built on. The site next door was open all year.
