If so it may well be combustion products from the gas burner getting in the van, this points to two problems. First the burner shouldn't smell to any degree if operating correctly, so it may need cleaning. Second, if it is a faulty burner thats smelling, it shouldn't be too bad in the van, so a check on the sealing around the fridge is a good idea. p.s. another problem you might get is the smell of the stenching agent, this can happen when the gas is low or you are unfortunate enough to have a cylinder with a lot of stenching agent in it.
