Train Fares

Just booked two tickets through Trainline.com to travel from Manchester Victoria to Halifax to pick our new van up on 2nd November and can't believe the price : £6 for 2, how can they make money on that. Our Bus Pass also enables us to use the train or tram in the Manchester area for free so the journey from home is at no cost to us. The cost doesn't justify taking the car to Halifax.

Wait until you see the train! Fares in the north are much cheaper than the south because the rolling stock is much worse.

We do use the little local train (500 yards from our house) into Manchester and have always found that ok, may be old, but serviceable and its free with a bus pass so can't complain.

how do they do it for the price.

They more than cover their costs from taxpayer subsidies and peak hour commuters. Everything else is more icing on the cake.
