Hi , can any one offer any advice on the water tight qualities and build qualities of this 2004 RHD Motorhome before I get carried away and spend all my money on a rubbish one!

It appears to be a French brand with little info here

Anyone owned one? Or wouldn't?

Thanks Sam

Can't comment on the specific model, but Challenger vans are seen widely throughout France so they can't be all bad.

A RHD one suggests to me that someone in the UK has thought they are good enough to have one specially made and then imported?

I could be wrong(usually am), but weren't/aren't the Challenger vans the same as/similar to/a different "name" for Chaussons.?....

(If so, the 2008 Chausson Allegro 83 that we had was great and very well put together).

Derek must have overslept...I thought he would've been here with a link to brochures and road tests by now... (lol)

WAKEY WAKEY DEREK! (lol)

Nowadays Challenger and Chausson motorhomes are built in the same enormous factory complex at Tournon-sur-Rhône, Ardèche in France. The history of the two brands is described here:

http://www.challenger-camping-cars.fr/historique

http://www.chausson-camping-cars.fr/univers-chausson/lhistorique/

By 2004 the Challenger and Chausson motorhome ranges were essentially duplicates - same prices, same specifications, same layouts, with just minor details (eg. upholstery fabrics, decals, cupboard door-handles) separating a Challenger model from its Chausson equivalent.

Although RHD Chausson motorhomes have been imported to the UK for quite some while, RHD Challenger-branded motorhomes were only imported for a very short time (one year?). The brand was exhibited at just one NEC show and there was just one UK agency.

I vaguely recall being told that there were legal problems with the “Challenger” name that Swift ‘owned’ in the UK for its caravans. Whatever the truth, RHD Challenger motorhomes were marketed here only briefly.

As there will be so few RHD Challengers around I’m guessing this is the vehicle Sam mentions:

In its day, a Challenger 151 will have been an entry-level model sold (in France) at a budget price, and this would have been equally true for the equivalent Chausson “Welcome” range. That’s not to say, though, that it will have been badly built in 2004 or that it won’t still be in excellent condition in 2016. (The vehicle in the advert certainly looks good.) But it’s important to recognise that any 12-year-old motorhome whatever its make needs to be very carefully inspected - particularly for water-ingress damage - before purchase.

It looks like 2003 was the last model-year in which the Challenger 151 was marketed.

The vehicle was Fiat Ducato-based and available with a 1.9litre, 2.3litre or 2.8litre motor and (I’m pretty sure) the bodywork ’skin’ was polyester.

The Welcome 4 model was the Chausson-branded ’twin’, but there probably won’t have been many of these imported to the UK in RHD format either. However, if hands-on UK-owner comments are wanted, inquiring about the Welcome 4 on motorhome forums might well produce a better response than asking about the 151.

Unsurprisingly, there’s a fair amount of on-line French stuff relating to the 151 and Welcome 4 models

https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Challenger+151

https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=chausson+welcome+4

that should provide useful information regarding dimensions, weights, equipment specification, etc.
