Dieppe Aires

Stayed on aire at Dieppe last weekend, having arrived Friday on ferry. We were on aire just off road from port towards town, Quai de la Mare, upgraded since last visit a couple of years ago as now marked spaces with new service point and electric hook-ups. There are around 40 places but only 10 hook ups, so in high season need to be there early! We had no problem as only half spaces taken. Signs indicate hook-ups should only be used for only 2 hours and no splitters should be employed. Ah but this is France remember, so everyone stayed hooked up 24/7, and if needed employed splitters! Entry is now by barrier, much better as stops tight wads avoiding payment, with a cost of 7€/night. This will rise to12€/night from April 1 this year.

There were some migrants camping in cliffs next to aire who come on aire for drinking water from service point. They took no interest in the motorhomes and were no worry to us. It was good to see some of the French vanners giving them bottles to fill with water and a local French charity giving them some food, as conditions they live in are not good.

If you would be unhappy on this aire then there is now a second aire with same facilities, on other side of estuary, you can use instead well away from migrants. Situation at this aire, on Boulevard de Verdun, is same as other aire regarding cost, services and number of hook-ups, but spaces are tighter and as is near beach tends was much busier when we were there.

Hope this info helps

We find more Aires are now charging, but at the same time often provide better individual pitches and services such as electric hook-ups; given this we are more than happy to pay as often, as with Dieppe, are within walking distance of town centre, unlike many camp sites.

Not all Aires are charging of course as spent two nights end last week on aire at Deauville which is still free but to be honest wish would introduce a charge so could improve it. As it stands takes 8/10 vans, some pitches are very narrow others very short and ground easily waterlogged. There is only one tap for toilet emptying and drinking water and waste run off difficult. On plus side there are six electric points and it is an easy walk to town, marina and sea front with good resturants, if a little expensive. Stays limited to 24 hours and municipal police did come round but together with two French vans we stayed two days with no problem and enjoyed our visit to a town we had not been to for over 10 years. We did not fill up with water, one tap really is not good enough, attempt to run off waste, but did use hook-up, although state of points did not insure confidence. Hope when we are round this way again things have improved!
