brom
Has anyone any suggestions of suitable campsites for easy access to Glasgow from the south side - ideally with good public transport links to the city centre? I really don't like taking my Pride and Joy (the van, not the wife!), into city centres. It's easy for Edinburgh, but Glasgow seems a different prospect, and is the main reason we haven't been for many years.
hagrid
I believe the only one site close to the South of Glasgow is Strathclyde country park.
dicksob
You might want to think about the CC site at Craigie Gardens in Ayr, short walk to the station and a pleasant 40 min train journey to Central Station Glasgow. Lots to do as well in Burns country, a nice contrast to the city. Bill
brom
Thanks for those - we knew about the Strathclyde site, but the lack of easy public transport put us off there - the Ayr site, however - that's an interesting idea we'll look into. There's certainly a gap in the market for a new site somewhere close to Glasgow.
BobK
Does it have to be the south side of Glasgow .. Lomond Woods site at Balloch is a few minutes walk from the trains into Glasgow, and also great access to Loch Lomond. I would guess it to be nearer than Ayr. armstrongpiper
Then there is Red Deer Holiday Park, Stepps. East of Glasgow. We stayed there last October and it was OK,. Short walk to rail station for Glasgow or Edinburgh. Not far from the Falkirk Wheel, canal boat lift. Plenty of easy parking and an amazing engineering feat. brom
Thanks very much. Both of those seem good locations, which we hadn't considered.
Brians dad
Strathclyde country park have a guy who runs a daily minibus into Glasgow centre from the site every day, though it may depend on how many paying customers he can get - I think it is about £7 return each. Otherwise, taxis to local stations are about £4 each, then the cost of the train fare - the site has lots of details of alternatives, taxi numbers etc.
