Guest Derek Uzzell Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Following my posting of 04/04, Mike Chapman (a regular forum contributor) has provided me with valuable feedback. Information obtained from a Ford dealership confirmed there is a potential security risk relating to all current-shape Transit panel-vans with central-locking (but not those with multi-barrel door locks). Ford is aware of the problem and has issued a notice about it (Bulletin 3S897) to its dealers. The small modification specified by Bulletin 3S897 would be carried out when a Transit came in for normal service/maintenance or where an owner specifically asked for the modification to be made. As a vehicle-recall is not involved, Transit owners won't necessarily be contacted direct. If you provide your Ford dealer with your Transit's registration and VIN numbers, an 'OASIS' report can be produced indicating whether the Bulletin 3S897 modification has been made (or needs to be made) to your vehicle.
