NEC - Motorhome & Caravan Show

We decided on the spur of the moment to head off to the NEC yesterday to mooch around the show. We found it to be very quiet, we even managed to get seats in one of the cafes! Did notice a distinct lack of little shops selling goodies this year or was it just me.

We went on Wednesday and the numbers looked way down on last year - Brexit ?. All new vans including British made will cost more so the appeal of a new van is not as great as it was. We were told to expect costs to go up by 10 to 15 %. Is this the end of the boom in sales ?. *-)

Could the fact that it does not coincide with half term have anything to do with it? I do expect that with the value of the pound being down and unease over BRITEX sales will be down this year especialy of imported vans. It's a buying decision that can painlessly be put of for a couple of years for many potential buyers.

Yes, we heard from a couple of dealers that especially continental vans would go up after the show by a sizeable amount.

As we hadn't been for several years not sure on numbers, but we were there Wed and Thursday and it certainly took time to get anything like busy...except for a few of the dealers who seemed to be very busy despite the number of stand reps available.

The busiest part seemed to be the halls further away from the main entrance, and they were the accessories and such like, where by early afternoon both days they were really thronged.

We bought a new Autotrail Van Conversion, due for delivery

We stayed (still are in fact) at CC site at Chapel Lane, Birmingham, and we didn't fancy paying £30 or more to park on a glorified car park....it works out about £17 pn for full facilities and some countryside here...!

Hi,

The CC tempoary site was in fact very good, with excellent Wardens. The vans were spaced out much wider apart than you find on the normal sites. Very large toilet block, mains electric, evening entertainment, and of course, Roasties catering and Bar, serving breakfast, afternoon cream teas, and evening meals, the CARVERY was to die for, as much as you want, £7-00. (the same meal in the show £15-50). A bus ran to shows main entrance, there and back every 15 minutes all day long. No driving back and forth to and from the NEC if you stay elsewhere.

cheers EM.
