trickydicky
Hi we have just bought a van that has a large, no doubt very heavy air con/ heater unit in the kitchen where the skylight was. We are worried about the weight of it and don't particularly want it anyway. Are they easy to remove and should it be easy to replace with another skylight. ron.
We recently did just that with our Telair 83000H air con unit. It used a standard 400x400mm roof aperture which ment that a Mini-Heki rooflight fitted straight in. They are heavy, ours was 34kg, so care is needed to get it out especially if you want to sell the air con on. We sold ours on EBay and it more than covered the complete factory cost of the job of around £400. Ron
Robbo
If the OP is going to use the van primarily in the UK then the aircon unit is not really necessary. The removal of the aircon unit and replacement with a skylight will provide more light into the kitchen area. However, if the van is used in warmer climes an A/C unit can be very desirable to get a decent nights sleep if connected to EHU. The weight of an A/C unit doesn't seem that heavy, if 34kg is anything to go by, as indicated by an earlier poster. An awning can weigh that much. If the OP is not critical on payload, I'd be inclined to retain it. It may also be a good selling point when the time comes.
thebishbus
I did the same as Ron , ours weighed 39 kg , replaced it with a more useful Fiamma Turbo-Vent. Brian B.
PJay
We removed our Weaco unit , and replaced it with a standard heki vent. Ours was also a heating unit and had an inverter, so that also was removed. A 2 man job, as getting the unit of the roof at 60 kgs (which ours weighed) was tricky. Sold it on E-bay for £799.00, lots of people biding for it. Put on as collect only. Local guy collected it , very pleased with too! He had a large 8mtr van so not a weight problem for him More than covered the cost of the heki at £ 127.00 PJay
