Get up and go

Yes, I know it's an oldie but with all this talk of brexit, immmigration, race, etc maybe it's time to lighten up a bit on Chatterbox?

 

 

Get-Up-And-Go

 

How do I know my youth is all spent,

My get up and go has got up and went,

In spite of it all I still want to grin,

When I think of the places my getup has been.

 

Old age is golden, or so I’ve heard said,

But sometimes I wonder, as I crawl into bed,

With my ears in a drawer, my teeth in a cup,

My eyes on the table until I wake up.

 

As sleep dims my vision, I say to myself,

Is there anything else I should lay on the shelf,

Though nations are warring, and parliament vexed,

We’ll just stick around to see what's next.

 

When I was young, my slippers were red,

I could kick up my heels right over my head.

When I was older my slippers were blue,

But still I could dance the whole night through.

 

Now I am older, my slippers are black,

I huff to the store and puff my way back,

But never you laugh, I don’t mind at al,

I’d rather be huffing than not puffing at all.

 

I get up each morning and dust off my wits,

Open the paper, and read the Obits.

If I’m not in there, I know I’m not dead,

So I eat a good breakfast, and go back to bed.

Hi Rich. So glad to see your post. You weren't involved in the recent spats about the usual subjects (yawn required perhaps). The lack of your calming presence in those rants was beginning to trouble me. I do hope that all is as OK with you, i.e. as OK as can be reasonably be expected.

Do you mean me Veronica - surely not - but I would not wish to see you troubled!

 

I'm OK, thanks for asking - gotta be alive to grumble - so I try not to!

 

I sometimes read those threads but all too often I find them too mind numbingly boring to even bother to add my two pennerth to!
