See http://www.sport-passion.fr/parcours/etat-cols-pyrenees.php Note that the col through which the tunnel passes is called the Pourtalet. The tunnel rarely closes. Am I right in thinking once it snows at the tunnel all vehicles need snow chains or is this just when it is very heavy snow. I seem to recall someone having to divert over a hundred miles cos they didn't have chains.French law says you must have snow chains in your vehicle when in or above the snow line, I had to buy chains for my Hymer one year to go up to the Viehala tunnel,from ST Lary Soulan Aire, used them once so if any one wants to buy them off me they can be had for £50 , cost me 125 Euros to buy.
