I‘m guessing it’s an A645 and not an A654... (Examples of A645 here)

My view has always been that the FWD Transit platform-cab chassis was not the most suitable for building large-ish motorhomes on, and also that the 1st and reverse ratios of the 5-speed transmission were too high for comfort.

You might find that the large over-cab bulge makes an A645 sensitive to high winds, but that’s probably going to be the case with any similar-design motorhome whatever the make of base-vehicle.

Hi

We had one of these but with a double bed above the garage (A630G?). Purchased from Southdowns new in 2010 for circa £37k

If you are purchasing from Southdowns, we had no problem with the quality of service at all, in fact they (specifically Rob), was very helpful

The van itself was fine as our first motorhome. It all seems to be well put together but our Autotrail Scout certainly is a step up in terms of comfort and overall quality. Ford cab and engine not as refined as the later FiAT but was powerful enough. Liked the seat material (faux Suede).

We only changed as the layout did not suit as we used the vehicle as much in the winter as the summer so went for a rear lounge arrangement. Only issue was water ingress under the dinette window which was rectified under warranty

Let me know if you want any more specifics but don't recall anything that would put you off

Nathan73 asked about ‘an 08 model’ Burstner.

In 2007/2008 Ford made a number of changes to the specification of FWD Transits. The 2.2litre motor’s output was increased from 130PS to 140PS and (more significantly) the transmission changed from 5-speed to 6-speed.

It will be noted that the motorhome that was advertised here

http://www.becksmotorhomes.com/vehicle/2008-burstner-nexxo-a645

had a 2008 Registration Year Date, but had a 130PS motor and 5-speed gearbox. When Sydney1 bought a Burstner Nexxo A630G in 2010 the vehicle would have included all the 2007/2008 changes.

To some extent it’s unlikely to matter whether the “08” motohome Nathan mentioned has the specification of the vehicle in the Becks advert or the subsequent 140PS/6-speed specification, as he had (apparently) committed to purchasing it. Coachbuilt motorhomes based on the 5-speed FWD Transit chassis can be tricky hill-starting (and very tricky reversing up a steep incline) and care is needed not to overstress the clutch. So, if the motorhome Nathan is buying has the 5-speed gearbox, it would be wise to check very carefully that the clutch functions perfectly.
