peugeot boxer thermostat change 2.5t

My engine temperature is constantly running low so I suspect the thermostat is stuck open. My question is how do I go about replacing it. I have located it on the engine but access is nigh on impossible from the top and not much better from below. Has anybody ever changed one or any tips on how you go about it? Also is there a 'Haynes' type manual for Peugeot boxer vans?

Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums, James.

It might be helpful if you provided details of your motorhome (make/model/year of manufacture) as I believe the 2.5litre turbo-diesel motor was fitted to the Boxer from 1993 right through to 2002.

There is no Haynes manual for the Boxer, but there is a Peter Russek book that should cover your vehicle

As it was said here

Peter Russek manuals are much less ‘step-by-step’ than Haynes manuals, and I’ve no idea if the Russek publication would answer your specific question.

Alternatively, there are downloadable workshop manuals that can be purchased on-line that SHOULD be much more comprehensive. (Example here)

Thanks for the very quick reply.

The weather turned out so good at the weekend that we decided to take advantage and just got back last night. (not the best idea I know with the temp gage showing no more than 55degrees)

We have a 1997 Pilote Pacific 62 on a Peugeot chassis with the 2.5turbo engine.

I will contact Peter Russek today and see about a manual. I have already got an online manual but, although quite precise, it doesn't go into much detail at all about the cooling system.

thanks for the help, I will keep you posted.

As you have an on-line manual I’m a mite doubtful that a Peter Russek book will help, as your problem is primarily one of access rather than actually removing the thermostat. The scope of the Russek publications is referred to here

My only experience of Russek “Pocket Mechanic” manuals was when I owned VW Golfs in the 1980s/1990s and, although the books would have been reasonably useful if I had wanted to carry out major overhauls, they lacked the much more comprehensive guidance of the Haynes publications.

There’s a comment on another motorhome forum that "The Russek manuals are rubbish. Full of info you'll never need but none that you do need.” This is a bit harsh, but has some truth in it. ;-)
