Ginny1
Hi, We are in Italy and have found that the service stations here are not allowed to fill a Gasflow system with GPL because we have a diesel motorhome. It is illegal to fuel a duel fuel vehicle. We have enough for our needs, but am wondering how it is possible to fill up in Italy. Can any one help. Thanks (I’ve moved this enquiry to the Motorhome Matters forum - Derek Uzzell)
Derek Uzzell
From on-line comments it seems to be reasonable well recognised that there may be difficulties getting ‘Gaslow-type’ systems refilled in Italy. This was mentioned in these MHFacts and MHFun discussions http://forums.motorhomefacts.com/133-italy-touring/56931-filling-gaslow-italy.html http://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/gpl-in-italy.86092/ and there’s a strong warning about it in twpster’s posting of 10 March 2015 7:36 PM in this forum thread: http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Hints-and-Tips/Is-fitting-a-Gaslow-system-a-good-idea-/37405/31/ Vehicles that can run on autogas are ‘bi-fuel’ (petrol and LPG) and the Italian refusal to refill relates to the autogas being used in a motorhome (normally) not being employed to fuel the vehicle’s motor but to fuel its habitation appliances (eg. heater, cooker, fridge). You’ll see that, in my follow-up posting in the 2015 forum thread, I said that the question of the ‘legality’ of using autogas for not fuelling a vehicle’s engine had been raised in France at one stage (though was never seemingly resolved). All you can do, really, is (as twpster did) search for an Italian outlet selling autogas that is prepared to refill your Gaslow system.
alan k
We've just returned from Italy and we refilled without problem. Last Autumn we were told at one station that the autogas pump wasnt working but we filled up at the next garage and the attendant filled it for us like last month. But we do have an external filler alan
BRIMAL
I think you may have hit the nail on the head with your last comment, 'we do have an external filler'. Lots of problems seem to come about when MH's open up gas locker door and lo and behold the bottles are visible. Also the big red GAS sign on the door is a bit of a giveaway. Touch would have never had any problems. (now there's a statement I hope I don't regret).
