Ralph Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Just bought the ACSI guide after reading about it in another thread. Simple question, what does ACSI stand for? I can't find it in the book itself. Yes I know it's sad but I'm just the sort of wierdo that likes to know these things.
michele Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Ralph , Not sure accredited camping site index. Associated camping site Index ?
Mel B Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 I think it's something like: "Association Camping Sites International" but in some other language! Mel
net-traveller Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 I believe it stands for Auto Camper (or Camping) Services International. It started 40+ years ago when a Dutch camping fan in an extended trip to Spain thought he had an idea to help both himself and others. ACSI do not own sites nor do they insist that sites sign up to them exclusively. Many of the sites in the Camping Card discount scheme also take camping cheques and the like. The old website had the history of the company but that seems to have disappeared. ;-)
Ralph Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Thanks very much for this. I had, of course, worked out that it was a Dutch organisation but wondered further. I can rest more easily now...
Usinmyknaus Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 www.acsi-gids.com gives chapter and verse on the 41-year history of the Dutch company behind the guides, plus info on current operations and publications etc. Bob
