tom1946
Hi all, I have a 2002 Starfire motorhome with the 1.9 TD engine and 5 speed box, I lost a bit of gear oil changing a ball joint and the shaft popped out slightly. I can't see where to top the oil up now, anyone tell me please? I have a couple of pics here if that helps.
lizken
I did previously have a 1.9gr8 and my pet mechanic. "Swore" as the method is to fill via the breather on top of the box
tom1946
I've heard this method too but it didn't say which gearbox it was, I'll check it out on my van, need to find the level plug as well so I don't overfill it.... Thanks for your input.
Derek Uzzell
This Fiat Forum entry https://www.fiatforum.com/ducato/333467-gearbox-oil.html suggests that refilling the gearbox of a 1.9TD motor is carried out by inserting a measured quantity of oil through the hole in which the reversing-switch is mounted. However, that advice relates to earlier vehicles than yours. This 2013 discussion here http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/2002-2006-Gearbox-Oil-Capacity-/30143/ highlights the potential problems involved in refilling a gearbox that does not have an oil-level plug. tom1946
Thanks for that, I'm still confused. I'm going under the van tomorrow to see if there's anything obvious.
tom1946
Ok had a quick look and all I can see is a reversing light switch on the top of the box, I assume it's a rev' light switch as it has wires in the top. Going to get further under this morning to see if I can find a drain plug....
