Mark Wilkes
I use a firm called camptons insurance and have found them excellent in every way.
gp1
Use adrian flux only because the person i bought my vw off used them. My insurance is extortionate because a while back i didnt own any type of motor vehicle even tho for my job i was driving proffessionally. As i wasnt a vehicle owner for over three years my insurance costs were and are up untill today on a par with a 17 year old first time driver. Basically high risk. Even though ive probably been driving for 30 years overall (often proffessionally) and never had an accident. Ive only just today recieved my one years no claims bonus. Total con. Tracker
gp1 - 2018-06-22 8:10 PM Ive only just today recieved my one years no claims bonus. Total con. Shop around, insurance is much more competitive for new business than renewals, and never take a renewal price as the best available. After 56 years of insuring vehicles I still get new quotes every year and invariably change insurers. And even if you don't change a lower quote is good leverage to persuade your current insurer to offer you a better deal. Just spent an hour getting new quotes for a car renewal and saved myself just over £50 - where else can I make £50 for an hour's work - unless I was an accountant, poltiician, lawyer, car dealer....................... gp1
Yes really should spend an hour phoning round. Being on a forum is better than going down the pub three nights a week and gleaning information from people after spending 20 quid on beer. After being on here for 4 days ive already saved myself 60 pounds. Yes i will checkout these recommended insurers. Have mentioned to my partner about putting her on the insurance aswell. If my costs come down significantly i may well soon see her set off on her own voyages. Thanks.
Derek Uzzell
The latest issue (Summer 2018) of “What Motorhome” magazine features the results of a survey of 30 leading insurance providers https://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/motorhomes/store/latest-issue/what-motorhome/ with quotes (for the same driver(s) and motorhome) ranging in price from “just over £300 to nearly three times that amount”. This year there was a tie for 1st place between Comfort Insurance (that’s always been highly rated in previous surveys) https://www.comfort-insurance.co.uk/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6dGZgZ3p2wIVjr3tCh2z7AqMEAAYASAAEgLfY_D_BwE and Staveley Head https://www.staveleyhead.co.uk/
plwsm2000
Also check that the windscreen cover meets your needs. Some companies have quite low limits for replacement windscreens.

fred22
If you put your wife or partner on your insurance make sure they are capable of driving the vehicle. If at any time you are in the position that you cannot drive, you may not be able to get assistance from your insurance company as they may l expect your wife or partner, as named drivers, to take over.. Bulletguy
Johno38 - 2018-06-20 1:02 PM Can anyone recommend specialist campervan insurance companies ? Depends where you want to tour. I've used Scenic now for the past few years as they issue green card free for many countries which other companies won't cover. Rates are competitive though the last year has risen for Ford based vans. https://www.scenicinsurance.co.uk/motorhome-insurance/
gp1
Yes shes pretty good apparently used to drive a minibus for work. 300 quid sounds amazing i can probably only wish but i will give them a call. The time im not using it is just frustrating because its money down the drain. I guess if i had sat down and wrote a list of expenses i might have thought again. But like most things the actual benefits / costs dont make themselves apparent untill over a period of time. if i could find cheap storage and cheap insurance things wouldnt seem such an ongoing expense. gp1
Yes they seem to want to know the mileage. 3000 is the lowest they will accept in a year. I said i did maybe 2000 a year in my vw. And only probably half that in my motorhome. (Only done 60 miles in it since i bought it). Plus i have to use the vehicle 3 times a week - there is no option below that. Ive only used the motorhome twice in 3 months. Seeing as both vehicles are with the same company i am paying for insurance covering 6000 miles per year and full usage daily. (When both vehicles are added together). This is a total exaggeration on their part which i am forced to go along with. How do they get away with it?! If i fabricated the truth to this extent i would probably end up in prison if anything happened. Plus i have to pay 3 times as much tax as my partner because her car is newer!! guess its all worth it for that pink sky tonight and school holidays here. Ill be free of the school sodding run! ( which i do in my skoda!) (Incase you were wondering!).
