Ralph Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 No, I'm not trying to get into the gas alarm debate. I just want to let you know that Lidl will have a gas alarm for £9.99 which seems a good price to me? See http://tinyurl.com/ywamjs Doesn't mention ether though >:-)
Norma Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 This alarm is a simple device and DOES NOT, repeat NOT, detect every gas known to man. Some idiot posted here that the Lidl alarm does go off if you squirt damp start at it, and therefore claimed it detected ether. He suggested it for use as a narcotic gas alarm - which having contacted the manufacturers I can confirm it does not. It is also NOT self-powered (if the power fails it does not continue to operate unlike a battery unit). This alarm does what it says on the pack - detects methane, propane and butane only ... just so long as it is plugged in - no more, no less. There are many better proprietary machines designed to detect monoxide (most dangerous) and smoke - which should certainly should have. As for other risks - it's up to you!
njw Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 i have one of those lidl alarms but i made mine run off 12v so it is always working and as you say it dose what it says on the tin.

Well my reference to ether was certainly meant to be toungue in cheek :-S Still seems a reasonable price if anyone wants one.
