snail
Hi all, ok this is off topic slightly? We are looking for a recommended camp site that takes TENTS near to Arromanche, English owned would be even better, as the French owners aren't answering emails at the moment! We know the area fairly well and have always stayed in the carpark by the 360 cinema in the hymer, this June I'm taking couple of mates over on our scooters for d day celebrations camping! No more than four scoots I already know of two sites in Arromanche but both full already so looking for personal knowledge from your own experiences, obviously need reasonable facilities, preferably within 30 minutes or so riding We have never been there on the actual day before and I know it will be manic, tried the T.O. as well no response, Thanks Brian
laimeduck
We stayed at Camping Portland a few years ago. At Port-en-Bessin a few miles West of Arromanches. May fit the bill for you. As I remember they spoke good english. They have a few fishing lakes on site as well! I don't think it was particularly cheap, but that may give availability? https://www.camping-portland.fr/
Derek Uzzell
I’ve stayed here http://www.camping-les-3-rivieres.com/en/ Cruelly is reasonably close to Arromanches and I’m pretty sure the campsite accepts tent campers. (Obviously it’s to be expected that campsites very near the D-Day beaches are likely to be in demand for the anniversary.)
PJay
I would definitely book as early as possible, also the ferry, as it gets very busy for the ceremonies. We have friends who live there, and they join in , and dress up in wartime clothes, and attend inj an old 1936 car!! With other brits dressed as Yanks, and attend in geeps . Quet spectacular !! They have 2 mobile homes in the garden which booked up for such events! PJay

Derek Uzzell
There are (or have been!!) several campsites near the coast between Ouistreham and Arromanches. Lion-sur-Mer (3 campsites) https://www.campingfrance.com/uk/find-your-campsite/normandy/calvados/lion-sur-mer/ Luc sur Mer https://www.campinglacapricieuse.com/en/home/ Courseulles-sur-Mer http://www.camping-donjon-lars.fr/ Graye sur Mer (2 campsites) https://www.campingfrance.com/uk/find-your-campsite/normandy/calvados/graye-sur-mer There’s also the Seasonova campsite at Ouistreham itself http://vacances-seasonova.com/fr/camping/camping-riva-bella/ and one at Bayeux http://www.camping-bayeux.fr/fr/emplacements-sp5.php

Micky Salty
Do you know there is a municipal site right in the centre of Arromanche.
Derek Uzzell
There are two campsites at Arromanches (I’ve stayed at both) - the municipal site in the town itself http://www.arromanches.com/uk/camping_accueil.htm and a privately-owned smaller site just outside the town but within fairly easy walking distance of the seafront. http://www.campinglesbascarreaux.com/home.php Unfortunately Brian’s original posting says "I already know of two sites in Arromanche but both full already”.
