tmdgts
I have a Duvalay Duvalite Apollo Luxe Mattress that came with the motorhome and I do not particularly like it and I am looking for ideas on how I can firm up the mattress without having to go to the expense of buying a new mattress, it is only 6 months old. Thanks.
Derek Uzzell
I believe you own a 2018/2019 Swift/Bessacarr motorhome, but I don’t think you’ve identified the actual model in your earlier postings. There appear to be several options: 1: Replace the mattress with a firmer one - though I notice that the Duvalay product you already have is advertised as providing “firm support”. https://www.duvalay.co.uk/custom-mattresses/15cm-duvalite-apollo-luxe-mattress 2: Add a ’topper’ that (if you pick the right one!) should increase the firmness. 3: Look at increasing the firmness of whatever is supporting the mattress. There are specialised bed systems that can be retro-fitted (example here) https://www.johnscross.co.uk/products/froli-star-mobil-bed-kit.html https://www.johnscross.co.uk/products/froli-bed-system-mesh-base-2m-x-95cm.html that are designed to provide adjustable firmness, but I suspect the cost would significantly exceed that of a replacement mattress. You might try temporarily putting a sheet of plywood under the mattress where it feels too soft to see if that helps and to confirm whether it’s primarily the mattress that’s the problem or the base it’s sat on is contributing to the lack of firmness. (Have you spoken to Duvalay about this? They should be able to offer advice.)
Dickybeau
I fitted a mesh style mat normally used by the sailing fraternity to manage moisture under mattresses.I bought it from a local yacht chandler. It’s about 1/2 inch thick and alleviates the pressure on my hips where they contact slats. It was relatively cheap (around £35). It came in a roll that I cut to fit using nothing more than my wife’s dressmaking scissors. This is similar to my purchase. If you’re near a chandler they might have something unbranded https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Airmat-Anti-bacterial-mattress-underlay-King-Size-Double-or-Single/143164843449?hash=item21554a25b9:m:m8BeyQBu7q58KdOVoAaELWw Might be worth googling for a supplier closer to you but the place at Rhu Marina usually has it in stock if you are passing ?? We are waiting for a reply from Duvalay The Froli bed system looks interesting and will look into this further. Would be good to hear from people using such systems. Will have a go at using some plywood underneath to see if this improves anything first. We have tried 2 different memory foams, at different times and this has not firmed the bed up enough. We have medium to firm mattress at home and for long term use in the motorhome would like something similar if possible but the issue will then additional weight... Thanks. stevec176
I've got the mesh on my beds but can't say I've noticed any real difference so couldn't really recommend it and it cost me about £100 for 2 single beds. Considering that you want a really firm bed then maybe throw the nattress away and use an old door. Good luck sorting this out.

Thanks. If the mattress is lying on a sprung support then putting sheet plywood (five ply) on top will firm things up. If the mattress is lying directly on solid boards then logically nothing will firm it up any more so your only option will be replacement.
