Worth remembering that at pow camps like Stalag Luft or Colditz, all prisoners were officers and treated accordingly. Stalags camp commandant, von Lindeiner-Wildau, was as the movie portrayed, removed from the camp by the Gestapo after the escape and threatened with court martial. After the war von Lindeiner-Wildau testified for the British against the Gestapo killers of the prisoner escapees. Former prisoners at Stalag Luft also testified that von Lindeiner had followed the Geneva Conventions concerning the treatment of POWs and had won the respect of the senior prisoners. For some reason the Brexiteers like to think that our war veterans would support their ideological dream to leave the EU and / or even break up the EU itself when there is no evidence to suggest that would have been the case at all and quite probably many would be horrified at what we doing. Same goes for figures like Churchill and Thatcher. They like to wheel them out as would be chest thumping Brexiteers but people close to both claim they would both be remainers.
