StuartO
Crossing northern Spain Westbound today we came upon an aged French MH towing a car with an A frame. We overtook and we’re probably a mile ahead of him when we came upon a pair of Guardia Civil stopping vehicles. I wonder how the Frenchman got on? neilmac
Probably fine :-D More likely to get a pull down in the N332.es area. Everywhere else from our experience shows very little interest other than perhaps a little curiosity....

Derek Uzzell
All authorative advice (government, motorhome clubs and magazines) in France is that A-frame towing in France with a French registered vehicle is illegal. There’s a long August 2019 discussion about it here https://www.lemondeducampingcar.fr/equipement/accessoires-equipement/ce-camping-car-double-un-camion-avec-son-cadre-a-tracter-et-provoque-un-debat-enflamme/172401 And my understanding is that French motor insurance providers that initially would provide cover for A-frame towing, stopped doing so when the French authorities categorically stated that the practice was illegal. Interestingly, even when French motorcaravanners argue strongly about the ‘illegality’ of the practice in France, it seems to be universally accepted by camping-caristes that A-framing is definitely illegal in Spain. StuartO
And today a Brit towing with an A Frame in Portugal - so he must have towed through Spain to get here. He overtook us on the motorway heading S for the Algarge and a few minutes later a police car overtook is too - and must have seen him. We caught him up about 15 mins later at some toll booths, where he seemed to be held up. It was a big, tall Carthaginian (over 3 metres) so perhaps he had been arguing about being denied Class 2. At least he didn’t seem to get pulled by the police car. I suppose it is a matter of luck whether they can be bothered.
