Conrad
May not be so stupid - according to WHO a face mask is not very effective - viruses and bacteria can easily get round the sides unless it is tight to the skin, and after prolonged use will go through. The grapefruit looked better in those respects! May also help by looking like a weirdo, as could keep potentially infected others away! Suspect eating garlic also worth trying! BTW, good old hand hygiene is best advise.
StuartO
This new coronavirus looks to be a big, big threat - mainly because it is an effective killer of older people as well as highly contagious even before symptoms present themselves. 2020 could prove to be the year when we oldies all have to stay tucked up at home to stay alive, getting our groceries delivered to us by the supermarkets! jumpstart
I’m already making my mask in the garage. It’s a bag of bbq charcoal with straps and eye holes. The smell from the instant lighter is a bit strong though.

Bulletguy
6,000 passengers on a cruise ship docked in Italy have just been released after a Chinese passenger suspected of having the virus was held in isolation. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-51314138 China have just opened a 1000 bed hospital after converting and equipping a building in 48 hours. https://metro.co.uk/2020/01/29/china-opens-1000-bed-coronavirus-hospital-just-48-hours-construction-12142899/
Conrad
Most effective way to catch a bug - go on a long distance air flight with a few hundred others. If that doesn't work, just stay with them in an old army camp for a couple of weeks.
colin
Conrad - 2020-01-31 4:16 PM Most effective way to catch a bug - go on a long distance air flight with a few hundred others. If that doesn't work, just stay with them in an old army camp for a couple of weeks. With the Coronavirus already here maybe they need to ask for a return flight and get back to that 1000bed hospital.

From your link; Tabloids like the Daily Mail quickly resurfaced old videos of Chinese people eating bat and mice that had nothing to do with the current outbreak (the bat video, as Foreign Policy’s James Palmer points out, didn’t even take place in China, but the Pacific archipelago of Palau; meanwhile, the “delicacy” shown in the mice video has been debunked; it is not popular or mainstream by any means). But folk will soak that garbage up before listening to health professionals that deal with viruses.
