ron.
Van due in for service on Friday and need to isolate the solar system from the starter battery. Is the fuse in question the blue 15amp fuse on the front of the Votronic MPP165 controller please? Many thanks Ron
Steve928
No, the fuse on the front of the Votronic controllers only protects the controller itself from reverse polarity connection to the battery. Your panel isolating fuse, if you have one, will be between the panel and the controller.
Steve928
P.S. if you can't find a fuse to isolate the panel then just disconnect it at the controller - the leftmost connection on the underside marked +
Mickt
Why do you need to, if van goes for service and is inside panel will not work
ron.
Thanks for that Steve. Mickt - No idea, I'm as thick as two planks when it comes to electrics. However, I've read many times on this forum that the controller should be isolated when carrying out battery maintenance to protect it . Mickt
If you work on my outside cover panel over
spirou
Cover the panel, problem solved. Otherwise cover the panel then disconnect the cables from the controller. Don't do that when there's sun hitting the panel.
plwsm2000
If this is just an "engine" service, they should not be touching the habitation battery. On the Votronic MPPT you can safely disconnect the starter battery without disconnecting the solar panels. It is only the habiation battery that needs to be connected at all times
Charles
I've got one of these heavy duty trip switches between our panel and controller.. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333018610095 Purley as a switch, it will never trip.
