burtonwisher
Hi all I have a 2010 Autotrail Apache motorhome which is fitted with the Sargent EC225 control unit. It also has 2 x 110Ah leisure batteries connected in parallel, and the EC225 is connected to a Victron solar controller via the dedicated Sargent cable. When the charger switch on top of the EC225 is turned on there is a lot of fan noise, so much so that we have to turn it off overnight and even often during the day. Also I'm aware that the charger within this unit is probably quite old technology now. I'm therefore considering installing a separate 240v charger which I'd plug in to one of the onboard 240v sockets, and then just leaving the EC225 control unit charger switched to off. Perhaps something like this: https://www.photonicuniverse.com/en/catalog/full/525-Victron-30A-12V-Blue-Smart-IP22-mains-battery-charger-with-Bluetooth-connectivity.html Clearly I don't want to cause any problems elsewhere, so any thoughts on whether this solution would work, and if so any guidance, would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Kevin
buddy
I would contact Apuljack engineering who should be able to repair your unit avoiding any possible problems or if they cannot help Sargent electrical should be able to advise you ,they have a very good helpline. buddy
Just to add,I think you need to use the EC225 system as it supplies 12 volts to the vans electrical side when on 240v hook up. (to run lights, pumps, etc)
