Mirror Armour

Anyone heard of or used wing mirror protectors from this company? I'm a bit wary as the website is new, and, without wanting to sound picky, there are some poor grammatical errors, making me wonder if it's a dodgy overseas dealer purporting to be based in Bristol, England.

Would also be grateful for recommendations for protectors for Ford Transit based 'van, long arm of course.

The “Mirror Armour” mirror protectors were mentioned on this forum in 2015.

There are currently three ‘mirror protector’ products being marketed in the UK.

Milenco’s “Mirror Protector” is priced around £60 per pair. Made from relatively thin flexible plastic, the protective cover fits closely over the original mirror’s outer casing and is secured on its inner edge by a separate plastic ‘clamp’ that attaches to the main cover with two small screws. I’m led to believe that, because the cover fits tightly to the original mirror, if the mirror has an outside-temperature sensor (a little ‘nub’ on the underside of the mirror’s casing) the sensor can be damaged when the cover is fitted. If you need to disguise a damaged mirror, or just make the original mirror more visible by adding a white cover, or provide some degree of impact protection, the Milenco product would be a cost-effective approach.

The “Mirror Guard” product is priced at £130 per pair. It’s made of much thicker plastic than the Milenco covers and attaches to the original mirror’s outer casing by ‘clipping’ around the casing’s outer edges (plus some self-adhesive pads on the cover’s inside face). The manufacturer told me that the plastic material used for the matt-black cover is the same thickness as used for the gloss-finish covers, but the basic materials differ and (as woody has said) the glossy covers are stronger as a result. Mirror Guards have an aperture to allow for the outside-temperature sensor and the latest versions have a hard-foam layer bonded to the inside of the cover’s plastic shell. Regarding impact protection, if the Milenco cover were a bicycle helmet, the Mirror Guard would be a Formula One crash helmet.

The “Mirror Armour” product has recently begun to be marketed by RoadPro and is priced on-line at £129.99 per pair. At the RoadPro stand at the NEC Show I asked who made them and was told that they were “Mirror Guards”. I then queried why they were called “Mirror Armour” and was told that perhaps they weren’t “Mirror Guards” after all. (I chose not to push the issue...) A cursory inspection indicated that they resembled “Mirror Guards” conceptually and visually, but the plastic shell was less cleanly moulded and the shell had no hard-foam backing. To me they looked like the original “Mirror Guards” marketed back in 2007 when X250 Ducatos/Boxers/Relays became available and, because of this, it would not surprise me if they were made by the Bristol-based company I mentioned in my posting of 17 February 2015 8:20 AM. I could understand someone choosing the Milenco covers because they are a lot less expensive than the “Mirror Guard” or “Mirror Armour” products. However, as the price of “Mirror Guard” and “Mirror Armour” covers is the same, choosing to purchase “Mirror Armour” would be a peculiar decision as a comparison should easily confirm that the “Mirror Guard” is the superior product.

There is now another mirror-protector manufacturer (“Mirror Shield”) whose products are claimed to be 'super-strong’.

Protectors for Transit Mk 8 vehicles are advertised for £202.80 (VAT inc and including carriage charges) and in black, white or yellow colour.

Mirror protectors for Ford Transit Mk 8 vehicles are NOT available from Milenco nor Mirror Guard.

However - I notice that Van Comfort advertises such items (black or white).

I don’t know if these are “Mirror Armour” products - you’d need to check that yourself.
