Violet1956
Having done little by way of travelling in the van for a year since it last had a service should we nevertheless get it serviced or save our money. It is a 2.8JTD Ducato on a 2006 plate.
Brian Kirby
Probably worth having at least an oil and filter change. Perhaps wait for the MoT (depending on when it's due), and have it checked over first, and get the oil and filter done in conjunction with that. Engine oil and brake fluid can become contaminated with water due to condensation when vehicles stand unused for extended periods, especially over winter. Garages should check the brake fluid to be sure it is in good condition as part of a service.
Violet1956
Thanks Brian. We had the van MOT'd a week or so ago and it passed. Will tell his nibs about your suggestions for other checks. Hope you and yours are fighting fit. Veronica
EJB
Always service yearly as even a basic oil change (plus) does good, as Brian suggests, but even more important at the moment is that it keeps my local excellent garage open! ;-)

witzend
Violet1956 - 2021-01-16 3:33 PM Having done little by way of travelling in the van for a year since it last had a service should we nevertheless get it serviced or save our money. It is a 2.8JTD Ducato on a 2006 plate. I wouldn't do anything until I was ready to use it again which will be several months away. Then a full inspection wouldn't be a bad idea brakes might need a service by then pads usually start seizing after a lay up especially winter time
Violet1956
I think that's the best idea witzend in view of our circumstances. The garage we take it to is only 2 miles from where it is stored. We definitely won't be using it until the end of March.
